About Vrnjačka Banja
Heart of Serbia’s Spa Destinations
Vrnjacka Banja, or Aquae Orcinae in Roman times, is the most popular spa destination of Serbia. Located at the foot of the Goc-Mountains, Vrnjacka offers a balanced continental climate with pleasant summer- and moderate winter-seasons. It was always known that Vrnjacka has Roman roots. But proof came only in 1924, when archaeological excavations unearthed Roman coins, several items and the remains of a bath in the centre of today’s spa gardens.
Queen of Spa Destinations
In Serbia Vrnjacka Banja is also known as the Queen of the Spa Destinations. Since the late 19. century it cultivates a spa-culture that combines tradition with state-of-the-art spa-offers. Four approved healing water sources, partly located in traditional pump rooms, are the base for treatments under medical attendance. Spa-facilities and -hotels offer a variety of contemporary wellness-products, amongst them is the Fons Romanus Centre, in direct neighbourhood to the Roman origin of Vrnjacka.
Green Nature – in the centre and the surroundings
In the very centre on Vrnjacka Banja there is a green oasis: the spa gardens inviting for a promenade and a visit to the cafés and restaurants close-by. In the surrounding of the gardens you will find beautiful renovated art-deco buildings as well as modern Spa-Hotels: a perfect symbol of the harmonic link of tradition and modern comforts. Behind the city-limit is the wonderful nature of the Goc-mountains, inviting for a hike in summer and for skying in winter.
Carnival, Culture and Sports
Once a year, in mid-July, it’s carnival-time in Vrnjacka. This event is a main attraction for up to 300.000 visitors from more than 40 countries every year. But in the same time, it is only one event in the manifold cultural agenda of Vrnjacka: music- und film-festivals for all generations, a spa-museum and a spa-trade fair, beautiful preserved monasteries in the region, and varied sports-attractions – they all contribute to what Vrjnacka Banja is today: the most popular spa destination in Serbia.
